Gas Lubrication: Gas Flow Measurement

Several significant industrial technologies evolved from the gas lubrication research programme conducted by the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Southampton in the early 1960s. One of the most interesting in terms of the great variety of its applications was the use of gas bearings in turbine flowmeters for gas flow measurement. This evolved from collaboration with another research programme concerned with improving heat transfer in nuclear reactors.
