Not long ago, I was discussing the amazing deal that our railroad industry has in the US being grandfathered into a near monopolistic business model. Yes, we need rail transportation and yes, it does work better corporate owned than it ever would government owned; Amtrak is an example of a nonsensically run railroad by a government agency. Indeed, if you doubt that statement then do a little reading on that perpetual political pet project, and you'll immediately see the problem there.
